Clocks- Coldplay

We have chosen not to watch the official Clocks video as to not take ideas from the original. We didn't want the video to resemble the official video in anyway. We wanted to make sure it was purely our own work.

Choosing the New Song

First of all we went back to our original research, and all instantly agreed that we would stick with the 'indie' genre. We then discussed all the artists we had previously researched, and all felt that Coldplay would be the most effective- and a big change from The Kooks (which we hadn't felt worked) without leaving the indie genre. Therefore, we looked at existing Coldplay products and made mental lists of songs we felt would be appropriate.

We decided to brainstorm our instant ideas when listening to each son, beginning with "God Put a Smile on Your Face"

We liked these ideas but decided to go through the remaining songs to be certain. Next we listened to 'Clocks'.

After listening to this song and discussing our ideas and sharing our notes we began to get excited and felt that this was definitely the one to choose. Henceforth, we abandoned listening to anymore songs and decided to begin brainstorming further for this idea.

Change in Idea

Following discussions over the half-term break regarding improving our ideas, we decided to completely change our plans and go 'back to the drawing board' and begin a completely new idea. Below is as far as we got with the first cut of our original idea (She Moves In Her Own Way- The Kooks). After much discussion and feedback from peers and teachers, this is the point we decided to change our idea completely. We felt this piece was no longer moving forward and definitely felt that we could create something of a much higher standard. Looking at the shots we created they would need much more editing to create our desired effects and we would need to do much more filming of footage as the remainder of our raw footage- other than that used in the video below- we felt was inadequate.

Feedback- The Kooks

Part way through the process of production, we asked our peers and teachers for feedback on our what we had done so far of our first-draft. They thought that our ideas and storyline were good. They also liked our use of shot types, but thought that some could be better filmed; be it a change in mise-en-scene or a slight wobble on the camera. We therefore are going to re-film some of the shots and scenes. Unfortunately, to maintain the continuity we are going to have to re-do more than just the small number of shots that needed changing. Nonetheless, this is what feedback is for- to get the best out of our abilities and product. We are going to discuss this and assess the changes that need to be made over the next week due to having a half-term holiday. We will also be staying in contact with our teachers via. email as to help us with our decision-making.

Progress Update- The Kooks

I understand that I have not posted on my blog for some time, this is because we have simply been filming- out of the classroom- and editing on the Macs at college. Both of which are time consuming elements of production.

We have been using Final Cut Express to edit our footage; constantly discovering new effects and techniques on the program to help make our video look more professional.

I will be continuing to focus on our filming and the editing process throughout October.

Roles and Responsibilities- The Kooks

Location(s): Park, Boy's house, Girl's house, Party, Classroom, Town, Performance space.
We decided on such a wide range of locations to show the strength of the feelings in the narrative..they weren't affected by where they were.
Personnel: Female: Jenny Gibson, Male: Jeff Leyland





Roles and responsibilities:


-Camera Work- All three of us.
We decided to share the responsibilities of filming our product because it was the biggest  element of our project and therefore it would be too much to ask of an individual. Also, each of us has our own strengths in using the camera- from a steady hand to framing and composition techniques- so in all three of us sharing this responsibility we would be able to achieve the best outcome possible.


-Director- All three of us.
Again, we decided to split this responsibility due to it's scale and importance. In addition to this it depends on who's filming and who's other responsibilities are being called upon to who would be best to/ or available to direct the scene.


-Props/costume- Maisie Hesketh. 
I was chosen for this role because of contacts working in the business so access to appropriate clothing and props was easier for me than perhaps other people. We understand that not everyone has these opportunities but decided to use what was accessible to us to our advantage.


-Coordination of actors and locations: Brogan Adams.
Due to advances in this area through other A Level subject and extra curricular choices,  we decided on Brogan to take the lead in this area- she knew people who would be willing (and able) to help us in our films, and knew locations that would be appropriate from past experiences.


-Time Management: All three of us. (Depending on other responsibilities).
Again, depending where we were required due to other responsibilities timing would be different people. However, we felt that it was most appropriate for us all to be responsible for time management as all of our other roles and responsibilities- including our blogs- would need to be timed and done regularly anyway.


-Equipment coordination: Tiffany Pickford.
Tiffany was in charge of coordinating equipment as the cameras, tripod, steady-cam etc. needed to be 'checked out' using the cards system in our College. Therefore, because Tiffany checked them out, she had to sign to confirm that, should any loss or damage occur, she may be held responsible. Therefore, they automatically become her responsibility although we will still all be using all pieces of equipment.
